The LaCie ShortCut Button is a programmable, multi-functional blue LED button located on the front of various LaCie desktop external hard drives, such as the d2 Quadra and 2big Quadra series. It functions both as a visual drive activity indicator and as a customizable physical macro button. Core Features & Functionality
Programmable Actions: You can configure a standard short press to launch any application, open a specific document, or trigger backup software.
Power Management: A long press (holding it down for several seconds) places the hard drive into an energy-efficient “Eco Mode” sleep state, while a subsequent short press wakes the drive up.
LED Status Indicator: The button glows or blinks blue to show the drive’s current power state and data transfer activity. How to Configure It
To customize what the button does, you must use the official LaCie Desktop Manager software application.
Open LaCie Desktop Manager from your Windows System Tray or Mac Menu Bar. Select your connected drive and click on the Shortcut tab.
Drag and drop any software executable, app shortcut, or document onto the configuration area (by default, it targets LaCie’s bundled backup software). Click Test to confirm the setup works. Known Technical Limitations
Interface Restrictions: The shortcut functionality does not work if the drive is connected to your computer using an eSATA cable. You must use a USB or FireWire connection for the button to respond.
Performance Impact: Keeping the Shortcut Button daemon active can occasionally impact data transfer rates. If you require maximum bandwidth for heavy file transfers, LaCie recommends unchecking the “Enable shortcut button” box in the settings menu.
If you are trying to set up or troubleshoot the button on your device, let me know your operating system (Windows or macOS) and the exact model of your drive so I can provide specific steps. LaCie 2big Quadra USB 3.0 User Manual – Seagate Technology
